Underwriting Assistant

This position coordinates a variety of loan processing duties working in tandem with the Mortgage Loan Underwriter, ensuring full compliance that each loan meets the standards and documentation required for delivery into the Bank's portfolio or appropriate secondary market investor.
Once the mortgage application has been received by underwriting, the Underwriting Assistant performs an initial analysis of the file via checklists to ensure that all the necessary disclosures are compliant and that support documentation is in place, orders services, follows up on any missing documentation, and completes the preliminary file set-up in preparation for the Underwriter's review. The Underwriting Assistant must be fluent in the use of the automated underwriting systems and the Uniform Collateral Data Portal. Upon loan approval by the Underwriter, the Underwriting Assistant, may at the request of the Underwriter, prepare the commitment letter, notify the Loan Officer and the Closing Attorney, follow up on outstanding conditions to coordinate and facilitate the clearing of the loan for closing.
Primary Responsibilities
Coordinates the timely processing of residential mortgage loan applications.
Requests, ensures the receipt of required verifications and other various supporting documents, and performs the initial underwriting analysis.
Coordinates the flow of incoming materials.
Generates required documentation, including attorney instructions and various reports and forms while ensuring that critical deadlines are met.
Responds to internal and external customers or vendor inquiries within scope of authority and expertise via telephone and electronic communication.
Stays current on new developments within the residential lending field. Attends relevant courses and seminars.
Administrative Duties
Assembles application packets for distribution to new applicants.
Coordinates the ordering and dissemination of marketing materials (i.e. Town Criers, rate sheets, etc.).
Performs general administrative and office tasks as assigned.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and investor regulations and requirements.
Reviews loan documentation input by Loan Officer for data integrity.
Follows and understands all procedures in accordance with the Bank's loan quality guidelines.
Associate's degree or equivalent.
At least two years working in mortgage origination as administrative assistant or on processing staff.
Working knowledge of mortgage origination process and ability to communicate same to applicants.
Working familiarity with mortgage origination systems, including Fiserv's Easy Lender and Morgagebot.
Must possess the ability to work in a team environment under deadline pressure.
Must be organized and a self-starter.
Proficient user of Windows Suite (primarily Word and Excel).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
